Working With Ross Long Co: My Process

August 29, 2023

Firstly, congrats love birds, I am so excited that you’ve found each other and are now sharing this awesome adventure together. As I always say, adventures are better shared! If you’re reading this you’re now probably diving into planning your amazing day and figuring out what to book and who to book. There’s a lot to do, I feel you, but let me take some of the weight and help guide you through.

I’ve been shooting for five years now and have a process to help guide you through the entire journey from start to finish, ensuring your experience with me is super smooth and stress-free.

I’ll break down exactly what to expect when you choose me to be the photographer to capture your dream day.

One thing to note is that it doesn’t matter where you plan on getting married, I can be there. I’m based in Byron Bay but available world wide.

STEP 1: SAY G’DAY!

First things first, I recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to reserve your date – ideally, at least 12 months before your wedding. Spots fill up quick! Not only am I photographing weddings but I also work on assignments for publications, tourists boards and brands. I would hate to disappoint you! Head over to the contact page and fill in your details and I will get in touch with you within 24 hours!

If you’re still in the research phase, you can get a feel for my photography style by browsing my website galleries. Once you’ve decided we’d be a good fit for your wedding, simply get in touch via my contact form and tell me all about your day! I’ll confirm my availability on your wedding date and provide you with some information about my packages.

STEP 2: SECURE YOUR DATE

Once you’ve reviewed my packages and made a decision to book me in for your wedding day, you just need to let me know via email and I’ll send through everything you need to secure your date. This will be a short questionnaire all about you, a contract and I’ll require a deposit. Now it’s time to crack a bottle of wine, sit back and take the night off. That’s one of the biggest things done and dusted. Go you! Keep an eye out on the post as I am going to send you a little something to help get you in the mood for your wedding day!

I have a bunch of useful wedding resources that can help you check out that you can use when planning your wedding. Although your wedding might be a while away, I will always be available to help out with anything. Whether it’s recommendations for local vendors or to help structure your day, you can reach out at any time.

Have you thought about doing an engagement shoot? I know some absolutely beautiful locations that I would love to share with you. This always gives us a bit more time to get to know each other and we can work out what it is you like and don’t like when you’re in front of the camera. Think of it as a warm-up. I’ll bring the beers too! Find out more about my engagement shoots in my services page.

Step 3: CHECK-INS

The thing with booking someone so far in advance is that you often feel a bit in the dark before the big day. Well with me that won’t happen. You can expect quarterly check-ins with me to make sure that you’re doing okay and to see if I can help you with anything.

STEP 4: CREATE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY TIMELINE

Crafting a well-organised wedding timeline is vital for your special day. It ensures a smooth flow from beginning to end, allowing me to capture all the amazing memories without any rush. We want zero missed moments.

Approximately 6-8 weeks before your big day, I’ll provide you with a comprehensive questionnaire to gather all the specific wedding details. This includes accommodation locations, ceremony and reception timings, a list of family photos, important family members and any special moments you’ve planned, such as helicopters, fireworks, confetti toss and first dance. Utilising this information, I’ll create your personalised photography timeline and send it to you for approval.

STEP 5: THE BIG DAY!

The big day is here! How exciting. Remember when we did that engagement shoot? I bet you’re glad we warmed up as this is going to be a breeze. This is where I show up and really show you why you decided to book me. Not only am I your photographer, but I’ll be your therapist, event organiser, personal stylist, art director and waiter. I’ll be that guy that will take away any stress and anxiety and help make your day run as as smooth as butter.

I’ll be there at first light to capture the bridal squad sharing their laughs and elegance whilst getting ready over champagne. Attention to detail is my middle name at this point and it is where I will capture your final moments as a Miss. I will then ride the day out with you for however long as you need me, capturing all the events from the ceremony, to reception to after party.

My approach to photography is relaxed, down-to-earth, and organic. I strive to capture real moments and emotions, rather than staged shots. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease during our shoots, so I create a safe space where you can let your guard down and be yourself. I believe that the best photos come from genuine interactions, and I love to capture those candid moments that truly reflect the essence of you and your relationships. I will provide some light guidance through the portraits because as a professional, I know how to get the best out of the landscape, lighting and you.

Make sure to pass me your phone too, I am a pretty good ‘content creator’ and will capture some epic photos and videos that you can share straight to your socials!

Once I wrap up the day, I’ll provide you with a little something to leave you with. These will be some precious little polaroids to summarise your incredible day.

STEP 6: ENJOY YOUR SNEAK PEEKS

It’s the morning after and you’re probably dying to see some photos. Well, check your inbox, because when I got home last time, I backed-up all your photos and quickly selected ten and gave them a quick edit so you can share them!

STEP 7: YOUR FULL GALLERY ARRIVES

This is it, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Approximately 2 weeks after your wedding, I’ll send through the link to your full wedding gallery. You’ll be lucky to find any other photographer that will get your photos to you this quickly without paying a hefty sum, but I’ve got you. I want you to be able to share your day immediately. Nobody likes waiting including me.

STEP 8: CREATE A CUSTOM WEDDING ALBUM

I’ll be in touch with you after your wedding to hear all about your honey moon (hey if you want your honey moon documenting, why not take me with you haha?). I’ll also chat to you about my wedding albums. I am a lover of prints and host a number of exhibitions throughout the year and I can not get over just how good photographs look printed. They feel so real! I think you’ll absolutely love my custom wedding albums. You can learn a bit more about them here. I have a range of personalisation options including cover materials, colours, page templates and custom engraving, so you can create a unique wedding heirloom filled with your favourite memories.

LET’S GET STARTED?

I would love to hear more about your day so do please jump over to my contact form and say hello.

Based in Byron Bay, I capture beautiful weddings across the Tweed Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and the rest of the world!

I can’t wait to hear from you!
